Privacy Policy

File First Aid is a native macOS app that runs entirely on your Mac. It works offline, needs no account, and is built to require as little of your data as possible. The app does not upload your files, document contents, or diagnostic results. Our website uses Google Analytics as described below.
The short version
- We don’t collect, store, or transmit your files.
- We never read the contents of your documents.
- There’s no account, no sign-in, and no cloud sync.
- Diagnosis runs locally on your Mac.
- Our website uses Google Analytics to measure visits and understand how the site is used.
Your files
To diagnose why a file won’t open, save, move, or delete, the app inspects the file’s location, permissions, locks, and the state of the surrounding folders and disk. This inspection happens locally and only when you ask for it. The app does not read, copy, or transmit thecontents of your documents, and it never uploads your files anywhere.
Information we don’t collect
We don’t require an account or email to use the app. The app does not include advertising, usage analytics, or third-party trackers, and we don’t build a profile from activity inside the app. If we ever add optional app analytics or crash reporting, it will be explained before it is enabled.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics on the File First Aid website to understand how people find and use the site. Google Analytics may collect information such as pages viewed, interactions with the site, approximate location, browser and device information, referral source, and session statistics. It uses first-party cookies, including a cookie named _ga, to distinguish visitors and sessions. The website does not send your files or document contents to Google Analytics.
We use this information to measure website performance and improve our pages and marketing. Google processes the analytics information on our behalf and may receive information such as the page URL and your IP address when your browser loads Google’s services. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can limit analytics collection by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser or by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop you from using the website.
Diagnostic reports
When you choose to export a report, it is saved to a location you pick. Reports are redacted to avoid including document contents, and they are only shared if you decide to send one to an app vendor or support contact. That choice is always yours.
Payments
Diagnosis is free. Applying a fix is a one-time purchase, handled by our payment provider. When you buy, the provider processes your payment and sends us a confirmation and license record. We do not receive or store your full card details.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, note it in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
